"Enthusiasm makes
the difference"
By Erik Carlson
First of all, I’d like to thank those who made it
to the live speaking event I emceed and spoke at last week
with Eric Lofholm. Eric was fantastic, and the feedback
from all in attendance was terrific. Many were inspired
to take massive action in their businesses and lives. Talk
about an enthusiastic crowd! Wow!!! I never tire of standing
ovations!
But the enthusiasm story of the month goes hands down to
a special group of individuals I had the pleasure performing
comedy magic for at a private corporate engagement last
week.
I was asked to entertain a group of about 60 senior citizens
for a dinner event at a very nice restaurant. It was in
one of those ‘back rooms’ that is set apart
from the rest of the restaurant and, as I was later told,
it was a sound-proof room…or was SUPPOSED to be a
sound proof room (I’m smiling right now).
For those who have seen me ‘in action’, I take
pride in getting the crowd going. This particular crowd
even surprised me. I have a comedy bit that I do, that encourages
the crowd to get excited, and to the most enthusiastic participant,
I will give a prize…in this case it was a bottle of
wine and some chocolates.
I don’t know if you can picture this, but try to
envision 60 senior citizens; some in walkers, carrying on
like a bunch of elementary kids vying for my attention.
They all were waving their arms, shouting, gut-laughing,
some were literally dancing in the aisles like they were
competing for dancing with the stars. It was pandemonium.
The shout and noise was so loud, I later found out by the
head waiter, that the entire restaurant heard it through
the supposedly sound proof walls.
I don’t know if these words can do justice with what
I witnessed that night by a group of giddy seniors, but
I drove home from the event telling myself “if they
can get that excited, then I have NO excuse”. What
are you enthusiastic about today? What do you need to get
excited about to fast-track yourself to your dreams? For
me, I’ve been convicted to get enthusiastic about
taking on the little ‘mundane’ things that I
need to tackle daily, so I can realize the bigger goals
that lie ahead.
I’m truly grateful to all of you that keep encouraging
me. Let’s make this next few weeks extra enthusiastic!
